Sometimes we can just tell the capacity of one’s intelligent by the way one explain directions. Sometimes one must be able to be empathetic. Often enough not empathy that prevails but stupidity rules the day…
An experience i would like to share:
Q: Camna saya nak pergi ke rumah En.******* bin ***** ?
A: OK..dari Tol Damansara, awak pegi terussss.. lepas tu 2 flyover awak belok kiri..lepas tu awak terus. Pastu awak masuk kiri lepas tu masuk kanan. rumah dia yang ader pokok cheri kat tepi belah kanan!
Hmm.. Good one! As if there are no buildings or landmarks to make sure i am on the right track.
It may sound a little better if it was like this:
Q: Camna saya nak pergi ke rumah En.******* bin ***** ?
A: OK..dari Tol Damansara, awak pegi terus. Ambik lorong tu. Awak terus lagi, lepas tu awak akan melepasi stesyen Carltex di sebelah kiri awak. Sejurus selepas setsyen Carltex tu awak terus belok kiri kat junction tu. awak pegi terus lepas tu awak akan jumpa satu junction. Awak masuk kana dekat junction tu. pegi terus sampai awak nanpak ada pokok cheri di depan salah satu ruamh di sebelah kana awak. haa..di situ lah rumah En.******* bin *****!
Directions without landmarks, without indicator or even without cautions can be mind numbing and stupid. you are also gonna be wasting your time following those directions. But that’s how majority of Malaysians are.
Please remeber to be empathetic and mindful and always put yourself in the shoes of the person who is looking for directions! they might get lost. caution them on when they will see..they will drive pass or they will encounter! Don’t think that we are all like Matt Parkman from Heroes that can read minds!
STUPID!
If i am not mistaken, when we were in school, there was a specific topic in the syllabus just on giving directions!
As you can guess, i’ve wasted nearly 1/2 an hour going for a wild goose chase because one stupid samaritan gave bad directions. Hmm.. well, im stupid too for not asking another person though.
Maybe i should start making a list of stupid Malaysian behaviour? no? well, we have bad bad directions, que cuts and lateness for a start right?
